Obituary for James Earl Westfall

James Earl  Westfall
James Earl Westfall, 65 of Exchange, West Virginia went home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2018. There to greet him at Heaven’s gates was his mother, Helen Crawford Westfall, his brother, David Lee Westfall, his beloved grandson, Samuel Colten Westfall, Nephew Phillip Kisamore, and Best Friend Pat Black
James was born on October 17, 1952 in Charleston, West Virginia to Helen and James W. Westfall. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving proudly in the United States Marine Corps.
Those left to cherish his sweet memory are His father, James W. Westfall of Flatwoods, WV, his loving wife of 44 years, Sandra Ash Westfall. His children, Angela (Ryan) Prince of Copen, WV, James (Kelly) Westfall of Exchange, WV and Jami (Mark) Hefner of Flatwoods. Grandchildren, Tyler Criner, Luke Hefner, Sarah Westfall, Grace Hefner, Andrew Westfall, Cayleb Prince.
His Siblings, Ella (Joe) Bradshaw of Charleston, WV, Kathy (Raymond) Truluck of Gassaway, WV, Nancy (Zeke) Kisamore of Cabin Creek, WV, Darlene Westfall of Heaters, WV, Gary Westfall of Charlestown, WV, and Roger (Amy) Westfall of Charlestown, WV. Sister-In Law, Linda Joyce Burns of Cleveland, Ohio and a number of special nieces and nephews.
James was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He retired from Donaldson Mine Company where he worked as a roof bolter and a welder. After retiring, James and Sandy moved to Braxton County, WV and began raising horses and showing them all over the state of WV, as well as Kentucky. He was a former member and board of director for the Central West Virginia Riding Club, Former member of the Racking Horse Breeders Association, Tennessee Walking Horse Association, American Miniature Horse Association, Spotted Horse Association, and the American Quarter Horse Association. He enjoyed watching his wife, children, and grandchildren show his horses. James was a lifelong hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed target shooting and won awards for marksmanship while serving in the USMC. He enjoyed collecting classic cars and trucks as well as other antiques and running around with his wife, children, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and father looking for bargains. He cherished his daily phone conversations with his friend, Buckshot, as well as his brothers, father, and grandchildren.
James loved to sit outside and watch the cardinals and hummingbirds that swarmed his feeders. He was an avid supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and the Braxton County High School Exceptional Eagles.
James gave his life to the Lord and was baptized in 2016. He had a loving heart and a giving spirit that will be greatly missed. He dedicated his life to taking care of his wife, children, grandchildren, family, and friends. They are all blessed because of his love and generosity and will forever be grateful for his unwavering love.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Jason Allen Officiating. Interment will follow in the Westfall Family Cemetery. Words of Comfort and fond memories can be expressed to the family at stockert-paletti.com
