John Forest Shaver, 84, of Napier, WV passed away at his residence on June 12, 2014 following an extended illness. He was born on February 1, 1930 a son of the late Oscar “Buck” Shaver and Ruby “Boyce” Shaver. In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by one infant sister Ruby Jean Shaver, a brother James M. Shaver, and his youngest daughter Sandra L. Shaver.
John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Rose Riffle Shaver. Also two daughters Suzan Marple and Wayne of Ireland, Patricia Ratliff one Lonnie of Weston, four grandchildren Lori Reed and husband Rich of Bridgeport, Amy Fishbaugh and husband Tom of Clarksburg, Julie Oldaker of Weston, Jodi Wayts and husband Jeffrey of Clarksburg, nine great-grandchildren Bethany Reed, Trey Reed, Alex Reed, Seth Fishbaugh, Emma Fishbaugh, Abby Oldaker, Lizzy Oldaker, Cooper Rose Wayts, Wesley Wayts, also surviving is one sister Lynn Jeffries and husband Gary, sister-in-law Jenny Shaver.
John was a self-employed mechanic, timberman, driller, and he had his own wrecker service. Prior to these trades John had 28 years as an electrician with the IBEW. John was very proud of his Navy military service aboard the destroyer USS Charles R. Ware. John loved his family and friends and loved hosting cookouts, chicken roasts, fish fry’s, and breakfast in the park. He was a great lover of animals particularly his dogs and cats and had many special companions throughout his life. He is missed by Tinker and Cali his current dog and cat. He also had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Friends may call at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621 on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at 1:00 pm from the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jason Allen and Pastor Lonnie Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow services in the Tichenel Cemetery with full Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #33.
