Obituary for Charles Eugene Conrad

Charles Eugene ``Gene” Conrad passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021 at home at the age of 82. He was born on March 11, 1939. Gene lived on Pigeon Roost Road near Walkersville, WV for 40 years and was a lifelong resident of Braxton County. Gene was retired from the Department of Highways where he worked for 27 years, 12 of those years were at the interstate garage at Burnsville followed by 10 years at the rest area between Burnsville and Roanoke on I-79 and worked his last 5 years at the Heaters garage. Prior to working for the DOH, Gene worked for the Town of Burnsville and for the Pennline Company. He was raised by foster parents Russell “Hugen” Conrad and Hallie Ann Conrad of Walkersville and has a foster brother, Jim Burns, who survives. He is also survived by close friend and caretaker of 10 years, Tim Gibson. Gene spent many hours working on the farm where he lived and was a hard worker his entire life. He was a kind and very giving person who was always there to lend a helping hand and was well liked by friends, neighbors and co-workers. Gene enjoyed fishing and hunting very much. He also enjoyed reading books, and watching cowboy and western shows on TV. Gene will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 12:00-1:00pm. Funeral service will follow in the Stockert Funeral Home & Cremation Chapel. Interment will follow service in the Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens, Heaters, WV.
